Xinobi is back. Following the announcement of his return with his latest full length studio release and it’s first single, ‘La Tormenta’ which was released last month, he now returns with ‘Amor Cego’ the second single taken from his forthcoming album ‘Balsame’. The wait for the follow up to ‘On The Quiet’ is worth its weight in gold - an expansive labour of love which now introduces another collaboration, this time featuring Margarida Encarnação, a classically trained soprano singer who here adds a new facet to Xinobi’s latest output.

Coming off the back of an immensely productive year in 2021, that included Xinobi revisiting the aforementioned ‘On the Quiet’ by re-releasing it as an expanded version, as well as seeing him re-collaborating with Gisela João, their first joint outing since their much-lauded crossover single ‘Fado Para Esta Noite’ and adding to his remix roster with remixes for other eclectic artists such as Luca Musto, Omri Guetta & Omer Tayar. He also found time to release lots of his own new music with an EP, ‘Morangos’, on Frau Blau and topped the year off with latest single ‘Helium’. He was prolific to say the least. Since then, he has been into the studio, at the new Discotexas headquarters in Lisbon, applying the finishing touches to ‘Balsame’.

Xinobi has now brought Margarida Encarnação into the fold – (Ana) Margarida Encarnação here pushes the boundaries of her voice as the well as those of her comfort zone, her imposing voice adding a cinematic quality to ‘Amor Cego’. It is perhaps no coincidence then that recently Margarida’s voice crossed over in to movies, with her providing the voice for Elsa, the lead role in the Portuguese version of the Disney film Frozen. An enthralling voice that you can’t help but get swept up in.

Amor Cego is a track is about the loving blindly regardless any danger that that love can bring, with a hook that repeatedly and rhetorically asks if you can love, regardless of the consequences that come with it. About being passionate about something that could potentially get you into ‘trouble’. Weighing up passion and risk and playing them off of each other.

Here it’s cleverly dressed up in metaphor, by the sun, that can blind you by looking direct into it. But you can only see the sun light at its maximum power, risking yourself to go blind. The track couldn't be more brooding, nocturnal and dark, almost representing itself to be a something that could totally eclipse the sun.

The eventual album will reveal plenty more guests over time as Xinobi looks to build on his incredible current momentum, channeling some of his best ever work into an album that upon hearing it, many will agree, is yet another definitive statement from an artist that continues to produce exceptional music.

‘Amor Cego is just the latest of a long line of tracks that will pave the way to ‘Balsame’, which will be out on April 8th, 2022.
