GPU Panic makes his long-awaited return with 거울 (Mirror), a new collaboration with South Korean artist Lili Coy.

Since 2017's 'Sand Haze' EP GPU Panic, (moniker of Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro), has been prolific. Now as he prepares his next full-length release, he has emerged from the studio unearthing a collaboration with emerging artist Lili Coy. Written and recorded at the beginning 2020, 거울 (Mirror) is the result of a long-distance working relationship that has endured until now. Lili Coy is a South Korean singer songwriter who debuted with her single 리리코이 (hahoo) in 2018. Taking inspiration from a variety of musical genres, she likes to experiment with different sounds to create music that is eclectic and unique. A perfect fit for GPU Panic then, as he found Lili’s voice fitting seamlessly into a track that was seemingly just waiting for such a vocal to complete it, and in doing so elevating the track to new levels as its pop shimmer coupled with GPU Panic’s expansive and infectiously catchy soundscapes collide to provide a truly special track. One of the few that features a Portuguese artist and a Korean artist collaborating, and in such a unique way.

“When I first heard the track, I did have a bit of concern because it was very different from the kind of music I usually make. But the track was very interesting. The chords and the melody felt almost enigmatic while the tempo was very fast and powerful. I took up the challenge and started making the vocal line for the song.” - Lili Coy

Again, from a lyrical standpoint, the track continues the theme of GPU Panic tracks having an evocative storytelling aspect. This time centering around the theme of a Mirror which lends itself to the track title as Lili explains:

“Writing lyrics that fit the song came naturally. It's a story about a girl who looks into the mirror every day. She is determined to change but is doubtful at the same time. The song starts with the girl questioning herself and as the song progresses and the track become more powerful, the girl makes up her mind and is full of determination. In the end, she sees what she wants to see in the mirror.”

Once again Lourenço Providência has provided artwork as immersive and thought provoking as recent singles ‘Flores’ and ‘Just Go’ that were released at a time when GPU Panic was heavily collaborating with another artist from his label Discotexas, as he became a regular guest on Moullinex’ music, starting with single ‘Luz’ and followed with ‘Running in the Dark’, which launched an album campaign and was backed with a remix from Seb Wildblood and supported far and wide especially in the UK with plays from Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1 and Nemone on BBC 6Music. His piercing vocals ever present on both tracks as well as on ‘Inner Child’ and ‘BREAK/OUT/BREAK’ making him one of the most prominent vocalists on Moullinex’ most recent record 'Requiem for Empathy' and a lead vocalist when they take the album on the road.

Just last month GPU Panic released the ‘Wrong Club’ EP on Berlin based label Get Physical and also featured on their latest compilation ‘Detroit Gets Physical Vol.1’ garnering a place in Beatport’s Deep House Chart top 20 in the process.

That growing exposure has only enhanced his growing reputation, one which GPU Panic has begun to cultivate on his own terms with high profile mentions for his previous work appearing in print, in Mixmag, as well as online on such sites as the influential Tsugi (France), with his live show attracting attention and receiving glowing reviews from sites including Deep House Amsterdam, and leading Mixmag to hail it as "an utterly bewitching live act". Now with the addition of such an emerging and forward-thinking artist such as Lili Coy, he and they are both set to continue on their exceptional musical paths as they release 거울 (Mirror) into the world, to be received, we expect, with the rapture it so deserves.
