Boats’ taken from ‘On the Quiet’ - Expanded Edition, out May 14th 2021.

With the album turning four years old this year, Xinobi decided to revisit the record and in the process unearthed tracks from that same era, including four new and previously unreleased tracks. The second of these tracks to see the light of day is ‘Boats’.

‘On the Quiet’ is an album that really needs no introduction. Since it’s original release it has gone on to be streamed in the millions, with features from Vaarwell on the hugely popular single ‘Far Away Place’, tracks with Lazarusman in the form of ‘Searching For’ and ‘See Me’ and guest appearances from Sequin and Ian MacKaye.

‘On The Quiet’ is pretty much an album rooted in the NOW. Its emo electronic music you can dance to. It is atmospheric House with Spoken Word, dreamy electronic with a pop feel, ethereal techno, dark chill leftfield fulfilled with uncommon lyrics on the dance music world. A dance floor-focused story about the transition of many electronic musicians from punk rock and skateboarding into house music and about how dance-music can be a field for social conscious awareness.

Xinobi’s second album now stands as a landmark release in his career so far. One could say this is a D.I.Y. record. Xinobi played and self-produced the whole album even releasing on his own label Discotexas (who will be releasing it again this time around). With some of his friends invited to sing on some tracks and Ian MacKaye’s (the man behind such important bands as Minor Threat, Fugazi or the Dischord label) voice about skateboarding manners and urban alternative interpretations. The record also features artwork by Braulio Amado, with the original physical release containing extensive biographical writings, full lyrics, interviews with Igor Cavalera (former member of Sepultura and Mixhell) and David Andersson of Punks Jump Up, all beautifully crafted with fanzine-styled aesthetics.

First time around, the album was championed by many of Xinobi’s peers with support coming in from Laurent Garnier, Mixhell, Alkalino, Nick Warren, Robbie Akbal, DJ T., Richie Hawtin, Nhan Solo, Marco Carola, Agoria, Severino, John Digweed, Crazy P, Danny Tenaglia and Joris Voorn, to name a few.

The Expanded Edition of the album will include instrumentals of all the original album tracks and three more new and previously unreleased tracks, including ‘If You Want It’, ‘Only Us’ and ‘Invaders’ all written in the same sessions as the original record.
